Fries or Browns? What Do You Prefer?

Nearly as frequently as eggs are included on breakfast restaurant menus are potatoes. One of our favorite carbohydrates in America is the potato, which we eat at any time of day.

Let’s start with the distinction between hash browns and fries when comparing the two. 

Hash Browns

Traditional hash browns (also known as hashbrowns and hashed browns) are made using shredded potatoes that are fried in a pan till golden brown. 

Have some hash browns first. Hash browns are made of “boiled potatoes that have been diced or shredded, combined with chopped onions and shortening, and usually fried until they form a browned cake,” according to Merriam Webster. 

In order to apply this definition in the real world, let’s broaden it to include the following: hash browns are made from potatoes that have typically undergone some form of par-cooking, such as boiling, steaming, or microwaving.

They are then combined with any additional ingredients to form a homogenous mixture; they are then fried in a fat to create a crisp, golden cake/patty/structure/squashed-looking thing with frazzled edges.

Fries

Potatoes are diced or cubed while making home fries. Along with them, onions and frequently bell peppers are fried. 

Fries and hash browns are standard foods at breakfast restaurants around the nation. 

Home fries are preferred at The Original Pancake House because they have a better texture and flavor thanks to the addition of onions and seasonings. 

They are more endearing and “homey” than the plain hash brown shreds. Many of the amazing breakfast items pair well with them as a side dish.

Fries are merely “potatoes that have typically been parboiled, sliced, and then fried,” the distinguishing characteristic of fries is that the potato pieces, whether they are cut into half-moons or diced into cubes, are separated from one another. 

Instead of using a deep fryer, these potatoes are often fried in a shallow pan or skillet, and occasionally they are cooked with thinly sliced onions and/or peppers.

Preferring Hash Browns or Fries entirely depends on the customer who visits the restaurant. However both are loved by a majority of Americans.
